Audience and Capstone

My main focus as of right now are my students. I feel that their learning is my number one priority. This time of the year they are beginning to become unfocused and it is becoming harder and harder to keep their attention. I want to find ways to motivate them and help them grow as learners. I feel technology is something they really enjoy and it grabs their attention, so my goal is to find new ways of incorporating new technology into my classroom to keep them engaged. I understand that my colleagues are also my audience. As I continue my research, I will keep in mind that my goal is to influence change in my colleagues and my practices. For now, I will focus on my students. After researching the ARCS model, I think I will try to use that to guide my teaching practices more. Without realizing it, I somewhat used this model as I teach but now that I see the model I can use it as I lesson plan.

After reading Clark's first two chapters I feel that creating a resource to influence others and sharing my research is going to be similar to making a lesson plan for my students. As I was reading through the chapters I kept thinking to myself, "this sounds similar to how I create lessons." The thought process on if employees need training and do my students need reteaching or motivation, are similar. So I want a resource to share my research to be engaging and easy to understand. I want it to be easy to read and follow if others want to try it too. I am not exactly sure what resource I will create yet, but I do have some guidelines after the readings.

I agree with you that my primary audience is my students. I was also surprised when I was reading about the ARCS method for our group that this reminded me of similar methods that included engaging methods in the beginning such as the 5E model that we often use in science. I did like that it discussed including the relevance of the content to students.

I agree with you that the first audience is students. Once data has been collected and analyzed, the final product is for teachers. As I read your blog I am trying to make sense of what a resource page is. Your thinking make total sense that is about showing teachers what your project is all about. I thought that it was kind of like a reference page of digital tools related to our project. Since we both have a different idea I think we need clarification as to what we will be creating.

My DQ is very similar to yours: What Are the Affects of Technology on Engagment and English Language Proficiency. However, I too have narrowed it down to more of How to Use Technology to Engage English Learners. I am acually looking at a producing something that helps with using digital technology to assess student comprehension where my students are creating retells. Your blog is straight forward and simplifies some of the dense readings of Clark and Dervin.

Alicia,

I was just talking with one of my project groups last night about how most teachers and all new teachers use research to guide their teaching practice. I know I did research in my credential program and BTSA in addition to this program. This research model provides us with a way to know how to improve. So like you I have also been thinking about how similar this process sounds to my own lesson design process. But that makes sense because they are both models that are structured around improving some method of delivering information in one way or another. Great blog!
