TPACK and Lasting Learning

Before this journey I have been using technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge. The program has taught me how to combine all of these things called TPACK. I have learned how to match up my pedagogy and content knowledge with finding the correct or best technology to support the students. Finding that "sweet spot" that incorporates all of these things helps increase student motivation and makes the content accessible to all students.

Entering this program has really changed me not only as a teacher but as a person. I am truly honored to have been able to work on my Master's Degree with Touro University. My teaching practices have been refined an rejuvenated during my time in the program. My students were able to join along with me on this journey and try out many different technologies and new teaching practices. By going through this program my students are on their way to becoming 21st Century Learners.

I too have been using all three knowledge areas prior to starting my master's work. What I wasn't doing was maximizing the power that all three put together can make. I hope to be able to spread my newly learned knowledge to my coworkers. Before we know it Vacaville USD will become the place to learn.

Alicia, I feel much like you do; I was already using the three areas of knowledge, yet not strongly nor effectively together. I agree that this program has assisted me in working more effectively with TPACK. I think, we have all come such a long way during this Master's program and will be able to utilize our knowledge in a powerful way!

I just commented on someone else's blog how fun it is for us to learn alongside our students when it comes to integrating technology. I think it is a valuable thing for them to see us learning and hope that even after the program is over, you continue trying new technology with them. I'm sure you will!

Alicia, reading your blog reminded me of a "TPACK moment" I had this year. I was teaching a math skill and then having students practice that skill on Prodigy while I pulled small groups. One of my students pointed out to me that I was able to help the kids who needed it, while the other students were practicing, and everyone was enjoying themselves. I agreed with her and then she asked me, "Why don't teachers do this all the time?" I didn't have a great answer for her but I loved that she so obviously approved of her learning experience that day.
