Capstone Seminar

After reviewing the capstone websites I have an idea of what I would like to do. I know for certain that my audience is going to be lower elementary school teachers. I feel that being a 2nd grade teacher, I don't hear a lot of ways to use digital tools for the younger kids. I'm not sure if it's because people do not know if they are capable or if it's because teachers are afraid to try. But I would like to make them my audience. I also have been thinking about the "Learn More" pages. I really like how Lisa Gottfried had all of her research on the first page. I think I would do something similar to that. Also under the "how to's" she posted videos on how to use the tools. I would like to do that also. That is something I need to get to work on because I would like to do a "how to" on Flipgrid and on Voice Thread since I used those in my first and second round of research. I would also like to start looking for more visuals to add to my page. I know that after reading Baggio visuals are key! I wish I realized we had to start doing these earlier because now I feel like I have a lot to do in a little amount of time. So off we go!

I need to go back and take a look at Lisa's first page to see how she listed all of her research. I think that your research would make a great example for other teachers who may be hesitant to use computers with their younger students. I follow Alice Keeler and she is always promoting Christine Pinto #gafeforlittles #k2cantoo and you may be able to find some visuals or use her for one of your blogs.

Alicia lower Elementary teachers would be an amazing audience for your project. I teach 3rd and when I tell people about the tech we use in my classroom people are surprised at what they are able to do. I think it would be great to have a lot of how to videos on your Capstone page. When integrating tech it is always helpful to see how something is done. I would get lost in the weeds if I have to read instructions for everything. Good Luck.

I too wish we had had a little more direction in the beginning. I would have directed my assignments in a slightly different way. Making how-to videos for the tools you used is something I wish I saw more of on the Capstone site we explored. Your site will be a great resource and fill a blank that exists. If you need more ideas try checking out the NEA website, Education Weekly and state and national sites. There are good articles, references and resources on these sites.

Alicia, reading your blog made me want to make how-to videos on my capstone website! I must have missed them when I was looking at Lisa's page. I was also thinking while reading your blog that there seems to be less movement towards newer ways of teaching at the elementary level than middle or high school, and it is even more severe at the lower elementary level. I wonder if teachers just don't think the kids can handle it. Anyway it shows that what you are doing is really important and needed! :)
